Carson City, Here I Come

Rally to Fight Budget Cuts in Nevada is today. Students and teachers from the entire state are flocking to the state capital to protest the atrocious cuts they want to make. Mostly effecting education, on every level. What this means to each person is different. For me it means higher tuition, fewer classes, more students at the community college level which will make it more difficult to get into the classes that are left. Tenure will no longer be given which translates into less quality education, the classes will be larger; i will be paying more and receiving less. For the state it means less college graduates because it will be incredibly difficult to achieve the necessary amount of credits in a 4 yr period which will deter students from attending school in Nevada or at all. With less college graduates businesses won't want to either open new business or keep theirs within the state if we don't have an educated work force. For teachers with tenure this could result in the total annihilation of their departments since they can't be fired or demoted, arts programs are being demolished, foreign language is down to one, and the enrichment classes are disappearing from the curriculum.

So today I head to Carson City with my muffins, string cheese and my sign to hopefully make a difference. It can't hurt, I sure as hell hope it helps. I love my community college, I don't want to see it destroyed.
