RALLY FOR EDUCATION MARCH 21,2011 CARSON CITY NV

where to begin

O.K. so yesterday here in Nevada there was a rally held at the state capital to protest the proposed budget cuts. Primarily the cuts to education. I won't go into all the ins and outs of the cuts, but I will tell you that if they go through, higher education is royally fucked up the ass with no lube and on a beach if you catch my drift. (see attached link) It was amazing, hundreds, maybe 1K students, teachers, and activists from around the entire state were there. It was activity and apathy, and it brought tears to yours truly eyes. What brought anger into my heart was the lack of support from my own community college and from my social networking friends. But I digress, we made an impact yesterday. Our voices were heard. The ball is rolling, momentum has been found and this armchair activist took her business to the street.

Now this is purely a rant, but WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE THAT CARE MORE ABOUT FUCKING DOGS, SNOWMEN, SKINNY BULLY VIDEOS AND NATE FUCKING DOGG THAN HIGHER EDUCATION AND CAN'T EVEN FUCKING SHARE ONE GODDAMN LINK TO SUPPORT A WORTHY CAUSE.

Carson City, Here I Come

Rally to Fight Budget Cuts in Nevada is today. Students and teachers from the entire state are flocking to the state capital to protest the atrocious cuts they want to make. Mostly effecting education, on every level. What this means to each person is different. For me it means higher tuition, fewer classes, more students at the community college level which will make it more difficult to get into the classes that are left. Tenure will no longer be given which translates into less quality education, the classes will be larger; i will be paying more and receiving less. For the state it means less college graduates because it will be incredibly difficult to achieve the necessary amount of credits in a 4 yr period which will deter students from attending school in Nevada or at all. With less college graduates businesses won't want to either open new business or keep theirs within the state if we don't have an educated work force. For teachers with tenure this could result in the total annihilation of their departments since they can't be fired or demoted, arts programs are being demolished, foreign language is down to one, and the enrichment classes are disappearing from the curriculum.

So today I head to Carson City with my muffins, string cheese and my sign to hopefully make a difference. It can't hurt, I sure as hell hope it helps. I love my community college, I don't want to see it destroyed.

Check out this link for information on the Rally to Save Our Schools from atrocious budget cuts. Raising tuition, getting rid of departments because they can't fire tenure teachers, not offering tenure any longer, larger classes and less selection, the list goes on and on and on. So tomorrow I am leaving my comfy home and taking it to the streets.

No Meat 1

So we are involved in Libya. And I for one am really pissed off about it. So I am going to stop eating meat until we are out. Lame I know, but I'm doing it and today is day one. Yesterday I had already eaten left over corned beef before making the decision. I am not happy.
